IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The flow diagrams illustrate the current and future maps of a town square that will go under construction for further development and will be completed by 2020.

Overall, it is clear that the current map incorporates limited facilities, whereas the proposed plan consists of a considerable expansions to the existing one, including replacing few of them.

The map of 2014 demostrates a large area occupied by a history museum and library to its west, fish market and town hall at north side, administrative building on east and fish restaurant and bar at southern side. Although the centre area has fountain installed in the middle and a bandstand to north-east, the remaining area has left vacant.

The future map of 2020 accounts for a significant installations including amendments such as history museum turns into local artists gallery, fish market into supermarket, whereas town hall remains changed. On eastern side, the construction of multiple shops by demolishing administrative buildings. In the Centre, fountain stands as it is and addition of children's playground to its east. On the northern area, plant beds are installed by removing bandstand. New covered seatings to the southern side are also build.
