Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, as it is 4 words short of the 150-word minimum requirement. While it attempts to summarize the main features and makes some comparisons between 2014 and 2024 (intended as 2020), the overview is very basic and certain details are limited or unclear. For instance, the student states that the center will remain the same, overlooking key changes such as the removal of the bandstand and the addition of the children's playground and plant beds. Ideas are under-developed, and the lack of length restricts the overall coverage of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organization with an attempt at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the mechanical sequencing ("In 2014... By 2020..."). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and paragraph structures are choppy and fragmented. While the overall arrangement shows an attempt to group information chronologically, the lack of smooth transitions and logical linking between sentences keeps the response at this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples of inaccurate word choices and misspellings include "square town", "measum" (museum), "restrunt" (restaurant), and "modiefying" (modified). The range of vocabulary is restricted mostly to basic terms repeated throughout the text, and attempts at less common phrasing lead to frequent errors in collocation and word form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at complex or passive structures are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement (e.g., "fish market and town hall was", "town hall remain"), missing articles (e.g., "at west side"), incorrect prepositions, and tense inconsistencies. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning of the changes can still be partially deciphered.
