Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and cuts off abruptly at the end with an incomplete sentence ('At bottom...'). Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 116 words, falling 34 words short of the 150-word minimum. While the student attempts to highlight key changes such as the replacement of the fish market by a supermarket and the administrative buildings by shops, the information provided is somewhat limited and lacks sufficient expansion or detail. The overview touches upon some changes, but overall the development is constrained, and key features like the new covered seating or playground are merely listed rather than fully integrated into a cohesive comparative summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, but the overall progression is disrupted by mechanical transitions and the abrupt, incomplete ending of the text. Cohesive devices are used minimally and repetitively, such as 'In 2014...' followed by '...will be introduced in 2020', which creates a disjointed reading experience. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical listing of features without smooth linking phrases prevents the development of a clear overall progression. Paragraph breaks are attempted, but the final paragraph is left as a broken fragment, further weakening the structural integrity of the report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'town squre' contains a spelling error, 'resturants' is misspelled, and 'local arts gallery' should be 'local artists' gallery'. Words like 'introduced' and 'replaced' are repeated frequently due to a restricted range of synonyms. While the language is sufficient to convey basic information about the map changes, the lack of precise lexical control and recurring spelling slips keep the response at this band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in tense usage and agreement, such as 'The maps illustrates' (subject-verb disagreement) and 'will remain same' (missing article). Punctuation and spacing issues are also present, including double spaces between words. Attempts at complex clauses are often faulty, and the grammatical errors, combined with the incomplete final sentence, cause some difficulty and hesitation for the reader throughout the text.
