Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the main features of the maps, presenting an overview of the transformation between 2014 and 2020. However, the development of ideas is limited and mechanical. While the writer attempts to report key changes, several spatial descriptions are confused or inaccurate; for example, locating the history museum and library on the northern side, whereas they are situated along the western side of the square. Furthermore, the overview lacks detailed synthesis, and the reporting of specific features remains restricted and under-developed, resulting in a partial treatment of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident through the use of introductory, intermediate, and concluding referencing, such as 'In 2014' and 'In 2020'. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the sequencing of information feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, with excessive reliance on repetitive conjunctions and linkers like 'furthermore', 'also', and 'subsequently'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal sentence transitions are mechanical and do not establish a smooth, logical flow throughout the description.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'siginificantly' (misspelling), 'plants beds', and awkward phrasing like 'plans for changes of the area and it completed by 2020'. The range of vocabulary is narrow, heavily relying on basic terms repeated throughout the text. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited accuracy in word choice and collocation, causing some minor difficulty for the reader in interpreting specific spatial details.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical structures are quite limited, consisting of a mix of basic and faulty complex forms. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, voice, and agreement, such as 'in the western side have been fish market' and 'the library, fish restaurant, bandstand, administrative buildings, bar has been removed'. Articles and prepositions are also handled inconsistently. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, restricting the response to basic structural patterns.
