Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying the main changes between 2014 and 2020, such as the replacement of the fish market with a supermarket and the administrative buildings with shops. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, mentioning key transformations like the reconstruction of buildings. However, some ideas are under-developed or presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, and certain details are less clearly outlined, such as the exact positioning of the new features. To reach a higher level, the overview should be more comprehensive and distinct, clearly highlighting the most striking overall trends before delving into specific features.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The overall arrangement of the text is generally coherent, with a basic attempt to group information geographically or topically across paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, relying on repetitive transitional phrases like 'Talking of opposite of the fountain'. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by abrupt shifts in focus. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that referencing between sentences is clear and precise to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial changes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic spatial and structural changes. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'reconstructed', 'administrative buildings', and 'supermarket'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors, such as 'buuildings', and occasional awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'seatings' instead of 'seating' and 'alongside' where 'around' or 'along' might be more appropriate. To achieve a higher band, the writer should refine word forms and collocation control while eliminating basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Children's playground in the 2014 will be constructed near the fountain, which would not be removed.' However, there are frequent errors in grammar, including incorrect prepositions ('in the 2014', 'in the the year 2020'), missing articles, and awkward verb tense choices (mixing future and conditional forms inconsistently). These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. To move up, the writer needs to exercise better control over basic grammatical structures, prepositions, and verb tense consistency.
