Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by describing some features of the 2014 town square map and the 2020 development plans, but the coverage is partial and lacks clarity. While the student correctly identifies a few key changes—such as the addition of the children's playground and covered seating—important spatial relationships and overall comparisons are vague or inaccurate. For instance, stating that 'everything is changed' is an over-generalization, as key features like the town hall and fountain remain in the same locations. The overview is fragmented, and information is presented as a disjointed list rather than a coherent summary of main trends and features, keeping the task response limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates very limited organizational structure, lacking a clear overall progression. Ideas are grouped haphazardly rather than logically sequenced, and paragraphing is ineffective, with abrupt shifts between sentences that disrupt the flow. While basic transitional markers such as 'Overall' are used, cohesive devices are generally inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'Started we have seen its the map was' create significant confusion and fail to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial comparison between the two time periods, resulting in a text that lacks a coherent arrangement overall.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that is barely adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on simple terms like 'map', 'area', 'side', and 'change' repeatedly. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'ilustarte' instead of 'illustrate', 'squre' for square, 'coverred' for covered, and 'resturants' for restaurants. Word choices and collocations are frequently unnatural, such as 'plants beds' or 'main ground', which causes some difficulty for the reader and prevents precise reporting of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying predominantly on simple sentences and broken clauses. Attempts at more complex structures are consistently faulty, marred by frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. For example, sentences such as 'Started we have seen its the map was 2014 map have four entrance path' and '2020 structure have supermarket in main ground we have look added the playground area' exhibit severe structural breakdowns. Punctuation is largely neglected, and frequent errors across basic and complex forms cause ongoing difficulty for the reader.
