Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task requirements by identifying some changes between the 2014 map and the 2020 plan, such as the supermarket replacing the fish market and the addition of a children's playground. However, important information is missed or misread, for instance stating that the library was replaced by bars and restaurants when the visual data shows the library was actually replaced by part of the gallery/building layout. Furthermore, the overall length falls significantly short of the required minimum word count of 150 words, stopping at 118 words. Ideas are limited and under-developed, lacking a fully realised overview of all spatial transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the text, attempting to move from the north-western elements through to the centre and eastern areas, but there is no clear overall progression across the response. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, relying heavily on simple conjunctions and disjointed sentences. Paragraphing is weak, with the body and overview crammed into unstructured blocks rather than distinct, logical sections. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the spatial relationships between the various locations on the map.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, though it is minimally adequate for discussing basic features of the maps like 'supermarket', 'fountain', and 'children's playground'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'Band stand have been removed', 'plant bed', and 'Covered seating are been seen'. These errors reflect a restricted range of vocabulary and occasional issues with word form, which cause some minor difficulty for the reader but do not entirely obscure the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic active forms. Attempts at more complex structures or passive voice are frequently faulty, seen in errors such as 'History museum have been changed', 'Library was shown... but now they are replaced', and 'Covered seating are been seen'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('History museum have', 'plant bed have'), plurals, and articles, which cause noticeable difficulty and detract from the overall accuracy of the writing.
