Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While the student attempts to describe the changes between 2014 and 2020, the information presented contains several significant inaccuracies regarding the locations of features compared to the provided maps. For example, the history museum is placed on the east side rather than the west, and the administrative buildings and library are mislocated. Furthermore, there is no clear overall overview provided, and the comparisons between the two years are disjointed. To achieve a higher score, the writer would need to accurately report the main features without major spatial errors and provide a clear overview summarizing the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response shows some basic organization, separating the description into an introductory sentence, a body paragraph for 2014, and another for 2020. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is hindered by mechanical transitions such as 'Moving towards in 2020'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and cohesive devices are inadequate or repetitive. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks clarity. To progress further, the writer should ensure that ideas are sequenced logically, utilize a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, and maintain clear referencing throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms such as 'situated', 'seen', and 'area'. There are also several spelling errors ('surronding', 'ompleted', 'nothern', 'seened', 'diffrence', 'bags') and incorrect word forms that draw attention. Less common lexical items are rarely attempted successfully. To improve lexical resource, the student needs to build a broader repertoire of spatial and descriptive vocabulary, pay closer attention to spelling, and incorporate more precise synonyms to avoid constant repetition of basic verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple constructions. Attempts at more complex descriptions are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in prepositions, word order, and articles (e.g., 'in east side', 'in the Middle of the area bardsland and fountain wewe established'). Punctuation is also weak, with missing spaces and run-on phrasing. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of grammatical structures with greater accuracy, ensuring better control over basic sentence patterns and prepositions.
