Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, as it attempts to summarize the main features and changes of the town square between 2014 and 2020. However, some key details are under-developed or inaccurate. For instance, the text claims that 'library will be uprooted,' whereas the visual data shows the library space being replaced by shops alongside the administrative buildings. Additionally, some features like the bandstand and specific restaurant locations are only partially or confusingly reported. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to select and report the features more accurately, providing a clearer and more complete overview of the spatial layout transformations without missing or misinterpreting key elements shown in the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the past and future layouts. However, the progression lacks clarity and flow. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or repetitively (e.g., starting multiple sentences with 'In addition' or 'In the west side'), and referencing is sometimes imprecise, such as referring to 'market center' rather than the square itself. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences often feel disjointed rather than logically chained. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive links smoothly and ensure that ideas follow a logical sequence from one sentence to the next, creating a more cohesive progression throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, though it is minimally adequate for conveying basic information about the map changes. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'replaced' and 'uprooted,' but there are noticeable word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'history meseum' (spelling), 'in center there were', and 'bar and restaurant are no longer be available'. These lexical errors and spelling mistakes occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical range with more precise geographical and descriptive terms (e.g., 'relocated', 'converted', 'demolished') and demonstrate greater accuracy in word formation, spelling, and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions and repetitive prepositional phrases indicating location. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, marred by missing articles ('in center there were fountain'), incorrect prepositions ('in west side', 'on the north side of the plan fish market wil be replaced'), and verb-form errors ('bar and restaurant are no longer be available'). Frequent grammatical errors require the reader to slow down and can cause some comprehension difficulty. To progress, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of complex sentence forms with improved control over articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions.
