Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

Please note that the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, falling three words short of the 150-word minimum, with twenty copied prompt words excluded from the count. The response attempts to address the task by describing some changes between 2014 and 2020, but it only partially covers the visual data. The writing includes irrelevant and inaccurate speculation about New York and people finding empty places, which does not reflect the provided map. Key features such as the replacement of the fish market with a supermarket and the addition of a playground or covered seating are only vaguely mentioned. The overall response remains limited and under-developed, preventing a clear and accurate summary of the spatial transformations shown in the diagram.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates some basic organisation, dividing information into paragraphs that correspond to different parts of the map. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'In result' and 'Additionally'. Referencing is also problematic, as seen in vague phrases like 'they constructed that area', which make it difficult for the reader to follow which specific buildings or zones are being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion of each section is weak, resulting in a disjointed description of the town square developments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic terminology such as 'fish market', 'town hall', 'history museum', and 'bar', much of which is directly lifted from the prompt. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'libary' (spelling error), 'neec' (typographical error), and 'saturated with less buildings', which can cause some difficulty for the reader. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are generally unsuccessful or inaccurate, and the lack of precise spatial and comparative vocabulary restricts the quality of the description to a basic level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. While there are a few simple sentences that are understandable, attempts to construct more complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence 'The diagram illustrates of town square'. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement ('administrative buildings was'), prepositions ('at town square', 'near to libary'), missing articles, and awkward verb tenses. These persistent errors occur throughout the text and cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning of some sentences can still be deciphered.
