Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a minimal attempt to address the prompt by comparing the 2014 town square map with the 2020 development plan. However, the information presented is largely inaccurate and fails to properly summarise the main features. For instance, the student states that the town hall is situated in the 'left corner of square', whereas it is actually located on the north-eastern side. Furthermore, many key developments—such as the replacement of administrative buildings with shops and the addition of covered seating—are completely omitted or described in a confusing manner. The overview provided in the second paragraph is incoherent and fails to capture the overarching changes in the area. Note that 8 words copied directly from the prompt were excluded from the official word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into paragraphs, and basic transitional markers such as 'In 2014' and 'On ther hand' are used. However, the overall organisation lacks a clear progression of ideas. Sentences are frequently disjointed, and referencing is poor, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between different features on the map. Paragraphing is rudimentary and does not serve a logical structure, resulting in a text that feels disjointed and repetitive, particularly in the clumsy attempt at an overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on direct copying or clumsy paraphrasing of the terms provided in the prompt, such as 'town square', 'town hall', 'fish market', and 'children play ground'. There are numerous spelling and word-form errors, including 'surroundig', 'developement', 'squar', 'preveious', 'museun', 'resturant', 'enterance', and 'twon'. These lexical limitations and frequent inaccuracies strain the reader and restrict the response to a basic level of communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting primarily of simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There is a persistent lack of control over basic verb forms, tenses, and prepositions, as seen in expressions like 'is situated is left corner' and 'fish market remove it and replaced make the super market'. Subject-verb agreement is frequently violated, and punctuation is erratic. These frequent errors disrupt the flow of reading and often distort the intended meaning of the sentences.
