Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given maps reveal the information about the development of a town which is a square and surrounding space in 2014 and roadmap progress of the area would be finished by 2020.

Overall, it is crystal clear from the maps that it would be flooded with ample of amenities in the future. Whereas the size of the area would be remained same.

At the first glance, in 2014 the area looks spacious as at the botoom of the map there are fish restaurant towards the left side and a bar opposite of it, whilst at the top of the left and right side there are fish market and town hall respectivally, In the heart of center, a fountain is located, besides that, there is a bandstand. East side has admistrative buildings, whilst its west has history museum and a library just below it.

In 2020,the spot would look more congested as compared to today since it would have numerous amenities such as new bars and restaurants at the south direction and new covered seatings just above them.right side would get more shops. Children's playground would be intoduced near the fountain, andhistory musum would be replaced with local artists' gallery

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main change from a market square to a more developed public and commercial space, and you compare the 2014 and planned 2020 layouts. The overview that the area will contain more amenities and remain the same size is relevant, while details such as the central fountain, the replacement of the fish market, and the new gallery and playground are grounded in the maps. However, some important changes are omitted or only briefly reported: the two plant beds, the continued town hall, and the replacement of the administrative buildings by shops. The description of the 2020 layout is also less precise than the 2014 account. Include these key features and clarify exactly what is retained, replaced, or added to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two dates. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison, and phrases such as “In 2014” and “In 2020” signal the shift between periods. However, the final paragraph combines several changes in a long sequence, and some links are unclear—for example, “new covered seatings just above them.right side would get more shops” runs together without effective punctuation. The 2014 description also moves between the bottom, top, centre, east, and west without a consistent route around the map. Organise each layout in a clear spatial order and use sentence boundaries and linking phrases more carefully to make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of map vocabulary, including “fountain,” “bandstand,” “administrative buildings,” “covered seatings,” and “local artists’ gallery,” so the main features are generally identifiable. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “in the heart of center” and “more congested.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for an IELTS map report: “roadmap progress” does not describe planned development, “flooded with ample of amenities” is an unsuitable collocation, and “opposite of it” does not clearly express the locations. Spelling errors such as “botoom,” “respectivally,” and “intoduced” also detract from control. Prefer precise terms such as “redeveloped,” “additional facilities,” and “to the east of,” and check spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a longer sentence describing the 2014 layout. The main meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “the size of the area would be remained same” has an incorrect passive construction and is missing an article; “there are fish restaurant” has a number-agreement problem; and “history museum and a library just below it” leaves the reference of “it” unclear. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly where “them.right side” joins two ideas. Use straightforward, complete sentences with accurate articles and verb forms, and proofread punctuation. More reliable control of these patterns would allow your complex sentences to communicate the comparisons clearly.
