Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the two time points and report several relevant changes, including the central fountain remaining, the history museum becoming an artists’ gallery, and new seating and a playground. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: the fish market becomes a supermarket, rather than an additional fish market, and the bars and restaurants are retained in the southern and south-western buildings rather than removed. The bandstand is replaced by a playground, not plant beds; the plant beds are a separate addition in the north. Your overview also says shops are additional without clearly explaining that they replace the administrative buildings. More precise comparisons and a fuller account of what remains unchanged would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the 2014 layout, and a final paragraph about the planned changes. This gives the reader a basic progression through the maps. However, the final paragraph combines several changes without a clear spatial or thematic order, and the contrast marker “Whereas” does not form a complete contrast with the preceding paragraph. Some references are also vague, such as “it” in the description of the fountain and bandstand, while “additional shops” is not clearly linked to the eastern buildings. Grouping changes by area or by what is replaced, and using clearer linking and reference, would make the organisation more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary such as “adjacent,” “western side,” “eastern side,” “replaced,” and “constructed,” which helps communicate locations and development. There is some variety in how changes are described, but several word choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this task. “A fish” does not identify the fish market, and “fish restaurant opposite to it” misrepresents the layout. “Town condition” and “covered seating place” are also imprecise, while “additional shops” obscures that shops replace administrative buildings. Spelling errors in “resturants,” “childern’s,” “muesum,” and “supermart” are noticeable. More precise facility names and standard collocations would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and more complex forms, including “Whereas, in 2020…” and “History museum and library were located…”. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are evident. For example, “The following maps illustrates” should use a plural verb, and “major changes has been occurred” has incorrect agreement and verb formation. “There wa fountain” is missing an article and contains a verb-form error; “is going to replaced” and “are going to erected” also need a passive form with “be.” The final paragraph’s opening “Whereas” is left as a fragment. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside varied but complete sentences, would strengthen the response.
