Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant changes, including the gallery replacing the history museum, new playground and seating, the supermarket replacing the fish market, and shops replacing administrative buildings. You also note that the fountain and town hall remain. However, the overview is unclear: “the structure … remarkably placed” does not explain the main pattern of redevelopment, and some details are inaccurate or vague. The museum and library were not both at the entrance, and the supermarket is in the north-west, not “upstairs.” The southern buildings are described imprecisely, and the two plant beds are mentioned without their location. To make the report more complete, give a clear overview and describe the main changes by area, using accurate positions and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, several body-like sections, and a concluding sentence, so there is some attempt to organise the information. However, progression is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not group features consistently by location or type of change. Connectors such as “Initially,” “Subsequently,” and “Finally” are used, but they do not always show a clear relationship between ideas; the final paragraph largely repeats that some features changed and others stayed the same. References such as “those years” and “this” are also unclear. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by paragraphs comparing the northern/western and central/southern/eastern areas, and use linking words only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fountain,” “covered seating,” “plant beds,” “replaced,” and “town hall,” which helps convey the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations make the meaning difficult to interpret, such as “remarkably placed,” “in upstairs,” “groundside changes,” and “same point are placed.” Some labels are also misspelled, including “chilldren” and “separtly.” Aim for precise map language and natural collocations: describe features as being “located” or “situated” in a particular area, and use “remained unchanged” for features that stayed. Avoid vague phrases such as “different stages” when describing the shops.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few longer sentences, for example the sentence beginning “Initially,” which combines the earlier and planned layouts. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to control, and errors in agreement, articles, tense, and punctuation occur frequently. Examples include “The diagram illustrate,” “fountain are same,” and “The town hall … are same”; these should use singular agreement and a suitable verb form. The sentence “The fish market replaced supermarket in upstairs” also lacks clear grammatical relationships between the places and changes. Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, and several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas”.
