Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main purpose of the plans and report several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the museum becoming a gallery, and administrative buildings being replaced by shops. However, the overview is repetitive and does not clearly summarise the overall pattern of redevelopment; the fountain, for example, remains unchanged. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the library is not removed in the plan, and the plant beds are in the northern part of the square rather than “in front of” the fountain. The response also contains 131 words, below the required 150, with 21 words copied from the prompt excluded. Develop the comparison with more precise locations and include the unchanged town hall and fountain.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from an overview of the changes to features in 2014 and then the proposed plan. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In 2014” and “In proposed future plan” signal the time comparison. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview repeats the claim that major changes will occur, and the final sentence repeats this without adding information. Several changes are crowded into one paragraph, with limited linking between them. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, and group related changes by location or type. More accurate connectors such as “while,” “whereas,” and “in contrast” would make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing redevelopment, including “fountain,” “covered seating,” “children’s playground,” and “demolished.” This shows a basic range suited to the map task. However, the vocabulary is repetitive, particularly “major changes,” “changed,” and “area,” and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “band stand,” “inti,” “restaurents,” and “reataurents.” Phrases such as “will changed into” and “will made” also show difficulty selecting the correct form, though these are addressed under grammar. Aim for more precise map language, such as “replaced by,” “converted into,” and “located to the east of,” and check spelling carefully. This would make the descriptions clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. There are repeated errors in verb forms, including “Fish market will changed into supermarket,” “history museum will changed,” and “covered seating and childrens playground will made.” These should use “will be changed,” “will become,” or “will be added.” Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a supermarket,” “the history museum,” and “children’s playground.” Punctuation and spacing need attention: “Overall, the” lacks a space, and commas are separated from the preceding words in “market , history museum.” These errors occur often enough to make the writing less fluent. Practise accurate future passive forms and combine simple sentences using controlled clauses.
