Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, the town hall remaining in place, the eastern buildings becoming shops, and the fountain staying central. These details show a relevant understanding of the plans. However, the response does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main transformation, and some details are unclear or incorrect: the library was not added, and the history museum became a local artists’ gallery. The claim that the square was “poor quality” is unsupported by the maps. Important features such as the two plant beds, covered seating and playground are mentioned only generally, while the 2014 layout is not clearly summarised. Select the main changes and describe them precisely to develop the report more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from the 2014 layout to changes planned for 2020, and it uses time markers such as “In 2014” and “In 2020” to orient the reader. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow: “In the another changes” and “as well as center of the part” do not clearly signal how the information relates. Several features are crowded into the final sentence, and the reference in “which is located the same place” is repetitive and unclear. Organise the report into a short overview followed by grouped details—for example, buildings around the perimeter and features within the square—and use clear links between these groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt relevant vocabulary for describing a map, including “divided,” “corner,” “plant beds,” “covered seating” and “local artist gallery.” This gives the reader some access to the intended changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description difficult to interpret, such as “furniture” for the square’s facilities and “most greast change.” There are also repeated general terms such as “change,” “place” and “part,” where more precise map vocabulary would help. Use accurate terms for the features and describe their locations with phrases such as “to the east of” or “along the southern edge.” Check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You use some simple sentences and attempt longer structures, including “The fishmarket change into the supermarket” and a sentence linking the playground, seating and plant beds. However, errors are frequent and often make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The diagram illustrate that show” combines incompatible verb forms, while “town squre and surrounding area is” has problems with agreement and article use. Tense and verb forms are also inconsistent: “was not change” and “was add” should use appropriate past or passive forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, especially where several changes are joined together. Practise accurate simple past and passive constructions before adding more complex clauses.
