Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several major changes, including the replacement of the fish market by a supermarket, the gallery replacing the history museum, shops taking the place of administrative buildings, and the fountain remaining. However, the account is only partial: it gives no clear, accurate overview of the main transformation and omits important features such as the two plant beds, covered seating, playground, and the conversion of southern buildings into bars and restaurants. Some locations are also misreported: the fish market was in the north-west, but the history museum was on the western side, not also in the north-west; the library was not demolished according to the plan. The response is 21 words below the required minimum, which limits the detail available. Cover the main changes more fully and accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from the western and north-western buildings to the eastern shops and then the central area. This gives the reader some sense of how the plan changes, and phrases such as “whereas” and “while” attempt to connect comparisons. However, the ideas are compressed into one block rather than clearly organised into an introduction, overview, and detail paragraphs. Connections are sometimes unclear: “whereas” begins a sentence fragment, and the shift from the library and fish restaurant to shops is abrupt. Use separate paragraphs for the overall changes and for groups of locations, and make each comparison explicit. More accurate referencing and a wider range of linking expressions would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “northwest,” “in the center,” “demolished,” and “replaced,” and the reader can generally recognise the places being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes parts of the description awkward: “illustartion of changes,” “covered sitting,” “childish playground,” and “had been arranger.” Spelling errors such as “neverthless” and “construced” also reduce precision. Choose standard terms for map descriptions and check spelling and collocation. For example, describe facilities as being “converted into” or “replaced by” new uses, and refer to “covered seating” and a “children’s playground.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex comparisons, for example, “while fountain had been remained same,” but the sentence structures are often faulty and the range is limited. Errors in tense and verb forms occur throughout: “changes had been done” and “had been turned” do not clearly express the planned changes, while “had been remained” is not a correct construction. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “in the northwest of the town Fish market” and the lower-case sentence beginning “whereas.” These errors sometimes make relationships between locations and changes difficult to follow. Use straightforward present-tense descriptions of the 2014 map and future or planned forms for 2020, then check each sentence for a complete clause and correct verb pattern.
