Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, shops replacing the administrative buildings, the gallery replacing the museum, and the town hall and fountain remaining. This gives the response a relevant overview, although “significantly developed by many shops” is too general to summarise the full transformation. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the fish market was in the north-west, not beside the town hall, and the plant beds were in the northern part of the square rather than replacing the bandstand on both sides. The library’s fate and the new bars and restaurants are also omitted, while the seating and playground are only briefly mentioned. More precise locations and a fuller selection of changes would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This helps the reader follow the main topic, and connectors such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “However” show an attempt to link ideas. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is not always clear, and some links do not express the relationship accurately. For example, “Alongside if demonstrate” makes the sentence difficult to follow, while “Additionally” introduces plant beds as though they replace the bandstand, confusing the sequence of changes. Grouping the information by location or by what remained versus what changed would create a clearer progression. Use fewer, more precise linking phrases and ensure each reference clearly identifies the feature being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “located,” “converted,” “removed,” “fountain,” and “children’s playground,” and you attempt to describe change rather than simply list labels. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. “The building has significantly developed by many shops” does not clearly describe the area’s redevelopment, and “dislocated” is not suitable for describing the museum’s replacement. “Covering seat” is also an imprecise label for covered seating. Aim for accurate phrases such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” and “covered seating areas.” A wider set of precise terms for locations and changes would improve clarity and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning “which” and “where,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to process. For example, “which is build on 2014” has an incorrect verb form and preposition, while “the town hall remain” lacks subject–verb agreement. The sentence beginning “Alongside if demonstrate” is also structurally incomplete. Practise forming accurate past-tense descriptions of the 2014 map and future-plan descriptions, and check agreement and articles in each sentence. Shorter, complete sentences would help you control grammar while you develop more complex structures.
