Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the museum becoming a gallery, the removal of the bandstand, and the conversion of administrative buildings into shops. You also note that the fountain and town hall remain. However, the overview is not fully clear: describing plant beds as “shops” is inaccurate, and the claim that the bars and restaurants will be divided into “small shops” does not match the plan, which labels these units as bars and restaurants. Some key features, especially the two plant beds and the covered seating on both sides of the fountain, are only vaguely reported. A clearer summary of the main pattern of redevelopment, followed by more precise location details, would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the changes. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “At the centre” help signal the focus. However, progression is uneven: the overview lists features without grouping them clearly, and the final paragraph moves between locations and changes without a consistent spatial order. Some connections are also unclear, as in “near these cuisine areas,” which makes it difficult to understand exactly where the seating and playground are. Organise the details by area—for example, northern, central, and southern/eastern sections—and use precise references to link each feature to its location.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a map, including “converted,” “fountain,” “covered seating,” and “local artist gallery.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision. “Plant beds” are not “shops,” “supermart” is not the appropriate term here, and “cuisine areas” is an unnatural way to refer to bars and restaurants. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “redstaurant,” “restraunts,” “seperate,” and “alon.” These do not make the whole response impossible to understand, but they can distract the reader and sometimes obscure the intended feature. Use standard map vocabulary and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and “but,” but control is inconsistent and errors occur frequently. For example, “improvement will takes place” has an incorrect verb form, while “there were also a fountain” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence “the town hall … which will not displaced” is missing the correct passive construction, and “there will be a plant beds” has a number-agreement problem. Tense choices also shift between past and future without always being controlled. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of 2014 and future passive forms for planned changes, while checking articles and singular/plural agreement.
