Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You provide an overview of substantial redevelopment and correctly identify the gallery, playground and new shops as planned changes. However, the account only partially represents the maps and includes several important inaccuracies: the supermarket is planned to replace the fish market, not remain in its original location, and the 2014 square had a fish market rather than a supermarket. The western building was a history museum and the eastern building was a library, not a bookshop; the bandstand is also misidentified as a bookshop. The “giant tent” is not shown: the plan has covered seating south of the fountain. To strengthen the response, compare the main changes accurately, including the retained fountain and town hall, the new plant beds, and the conversion of eastern administrative buildings into shops.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two time periods. This helps the reader follow the general topic, and linking phrases such as “By 2020” and “In addition” signal transitions. However, progression is weakened by inaccurate or unclear references, including “the bookshop” and “some shops located nearby,” which make it difficult to connect the descriptions to the map. Some information is also grouped loosely rather than compared systematically. Organise the body around locations or types of change—for example, northern buildings, central facilities, and southern/eastern redevelopment—and use clear references to distinguish existing features from planned ones.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “converted,” “removed,” “constructed,” and “playground,” and the response communicates the broad idea of redevelopment. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or imprecise: “bookshop” does not match the library, “giant tent” does not describe covered seating, and “green space” is too general for the two plant beds. Spelling errors such as “westeren,” “meusum,” “artest,” and “shopes” are noticeable and can distract the reader. Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling carefully; terms such as “replace,” “retain,” “plant beds,” and “covered seating” would describe the features more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and several sentences convey their main meaning clearly, such as “The history museum will be converted into local artest gallery.” However, errors in sentence construction, tense, articles, and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “The diagram illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Afish restaurant” lacks a space and “will be converted into local artest gallery” needs an article before the gallery description. The overview also shifts between planned changes and present-tense claims. Use consistent future forms for the 2020 plan, check singular/plural agreement, and proofread spacing and sentence boundaries.
