Student answer (Band 5.0)
The town square and surrounding area in 2014 and 2020 with huge development. The town hall is as same as in 2014 and the fish market in 2014 is converted into supermarket. The history museum was converted into local artists gallery. There was a library in 2014 but after the development no library is established. There was only one fish restaurant and bar in 2014 and after the renovation many small resturants and bars are open in 2020.There was big administration buildings in the town which is converted into different shops . In the middle of the town square there is sa fountain which was quite similar in 2014. Along with the fountain there was only bandstand before development but after the development lot of things are made. Bandstand has no space after renovation and at that place the two plant beds are made, one children's playground made and along with that playground two different covered seating area is made which was not in 2014.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the museum becoming an artists’ gallery, the administrative buildings being replaced by shops, and the fountain remaining central. However, the response does not provide a clear overview of the main pattern of redevelopment, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the plant beds were not made where the bandstand stood; they are in the northern part of the square, while the playground occupies the former bandstand area. The two covered seating areas are also beside the fountain, not “along with” the playground. The library’s removal is noted, but other key changes could be reported more precisely. Organise the main transformations into a concise overview and accurate supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response follows a broadly chronological pattern, moving from the buildings around the square to its central features, and linking phrases such as “after the development” help signal change. However, the information is presented as one continuous paragraph, with no clear overview or grouping of related features. Several transitions are repetitive, particularly repeated uses of “and” and “after the development,” while the final sentence combines multiple changes in a confusing way. The reference in “at that place” is also unclear because it appears to connect the bandstand with the plant beds, playground and seating. Use separate paragraphs for the overall changes and specific details, and group buildings separately from features within the square.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing redevelopment, including “converted,” “renovation,” “administration buildings” and “covered seating area.” This gives the reader a basic understanding of the changes. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive, such as “huge development,” “lot of things are made” and “different shops.” Some word choices and spelling errors also reduce clarity, including “resturants” and “gallery” without the possessive form in “local artists gallery.” Aim for more precise map vocabulary, such as “replaced by,” “redeveloped as,” “located to the south of” and “multiple units,” and check spelling and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “but after the development,” and the reader can generally follow the basic comparisons. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence formation, articles, agreement and punctuation. Examples include the opening fragment, “The town square and surrounding area in 2014 and 2020 with huge development,” and “The town hall is as same as in 2014.” The sentence beginning “Along with the fountain” is also difficult to follow because its clauses are joined without clear structure. Practise complete sentences with accurate past-tense descriptions, and use shorter sentences to report each change clearly before attempting more complex comparisons.
