Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the task as a comparison of the 2014 layout and the planned redevelopment, and you report several relevant existing features, including the central fountain, eastern administrative buildings and southern businesses. However, the response only begins the 2020 account and ends with “A fish market is”, so the main changes shown on the plan are not actually summarised. The overview is also vague: “significant changes” and “improved public facilities” are not supported by a clear account of what is retained, replaced or added. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, such as placing the fish market and museum together at the north-west corner. To improve, give a concise overview and compare the key changes, including the supermarket, gallery, plant beds, playground, seating and new commercial units.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. This gives the reader some basic organisation, and phrases such as “In 2014” and “In 2020” signal the intended sequence. However, progression is incomplete because the final paragraph stops before explaining the planned layout, leaving the comparison unfinished. The overview also repeats the general idea of change without organising the main features into clear groups. Some linking within sentences is awkward, for example “A fish restaurant was present along a bar,” and the list of developments is not developed further. Build a complete 2014-to-2020 progression, group changes by location or type, and use clear links such as “whereas,” “while,” and “in contrast” accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “layout,” “redevelopment,” “fountain,” “administrative buildings,” and “northeast corner,” which helps communicate the topic. There is also an attempt to vary wording with “modernised” and “public facilities.” However, spelling errors are frequent and noticeable, including “niotied,” “palnt,” “libaray,” and “restaurent,” and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “a fish restaurant was present along a bar.” Repetition of “area” and “present” also limits the range. Use accurate, conventional map language such as “located,” “situated,” “replaced by,” and “converted into,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would make the descriptions easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence forms, including an overview sentence beginning “Overall” and descriptions using “There was” and “while.” Most of the response relies on short, simple statements, however, and errors recur in basic structures. Examples include “town has underwent” instead of “the town has undergone,” “some features have been remained,” and “A Fish market a history museum were present,” where the verb and sentence structure are incomplete. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “that town” and “the children playground.” The unfinished final sentence further prevents a complete grammatical structure. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete comparisons, and proofread for articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
