Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main subject and provide an overview that the square’s boundaries remain unchanged while its internal layout is redeveloped. You also report several relevant changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the town hall remaining, and the administrative buildings being replaced by shops. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the history museum becomes a local artists’ gallery, but the library is not converted into covered seating; it remains unmentioned in the plan. The fish restaurant and bar are replaced by bars and restaurants, and the playground is east of the fountain rather than in the south-east corner. The overview is useful, but fuller and more accurate coverage of the central features would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has an identifiable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. Basic sequencing words such as “Overall,” “firstly,” and “also” help signal movement between points. However, the progression within the body is difficult to follow because several changes are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the sentence beginning “while town hall is as it is” moves through the museum, library, restaurant, bar, and shops without clear separation. The final paragraph also mixes location details with personal comments about visitors and families. Use one paragraph for perimeter buildings and another for changes inside the square, with clear sentence boundaries and more precise linking.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to describing redevelopment, including “converted,” “demolished,” “administrative building,” and “playground.” These choices show some awareness of the task’s topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description difficult to understand, such as “inner cunstruction,” “plant bads,” “numerious,” and “technological changes.” Some phrases are also unnatural for a map report, including “same boundry” and “look wise.” Aim for accurate, neutral terms for locations and changes, such as “the square’s layout,” “was replaced by,” and “in the south-western section.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations would make your meaning clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the response includes some useful comparison structures, such as “town hall is as it is compare to past.” However, the longer sentences are often difficult to follow because clauses are joined without reliable grammatical control. There are frequent problems with verb forms and tense, as in “fish market was disappear,” “was build,” and “was putted.” Articles, agreement, and sentence construction are also inconsistent, for example “the reasion fish restaurant and bar was demolished.” Punctuation is weak, particularly where commas run several ideas together. Practise forming clear past-tense passive sentences—“The fish market was replaced by a supermarket”—and divide complex descriptions into shorter, complete sentences.
