Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation and preserve key features: the town hall and central fountain remain, while the fish market becomes a supermarket, the museum becomes an artists’ gallery, and administrative buildings are replaced by shops. This covers the task’s central comparison and gives a relevant overview. The response also mentions new seating and a playground. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the administrative buildings are on the eastern side, not the west, and the 2014 town hall and fish market are in the north rather than simply “opposite” the fountain. The overview’s claim that traditional features are demolished is too broad, since several buildings remain or are repurposed. More precise location comparisons and mention of the plant beds would make the account more complete and better developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the 2014 layout, and a paragraph about the planned changes. This gives the reader a basic chronological progression, and linking expressions such as “overall,” “furthermore,” and “Till 2020” signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several features are crowded into long sentences, and some references are unclear—for example, “opposite to it” does not clearly identify the feature being compared. “Furthermore” is also repeated without always adding a distinct point. Grouping details by area and using clearer transitions between the existing layout and proposed changes would make the organisation more coherent and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of task-relevant vocabulary, including “redevelopment,” “facilities,” “layout,” and “transformed,” and you use terms such as “north,” “west,” and “south” to describe locations. This is enough to communicate the broad changes, but inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the description less clear: examples include “complected,” “tradional,” “intoduction,” and “resturents.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “public relaxment” and “for public convenience and accesiabilty.” Aim for accurate, conventional map vocabulary and collocations rather than adding awkwardly formed expressions. Proofreading spelling and choosing precise labels for locations and changes would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, including the overview beginning “although fountain remains…” and the description using “furthermore.” However, control is limited: errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur throughout. For example, “The maps illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the town hall and its surroundings will goes” combines an incorrect auxiliary pattern with the wrong verb form. “Fish market and town hall was” also has agreement problems. Several sentences run together or use a dependent clause as a separate sentence, as in “although foutain remains on centre…”. Practise accurate past and future forms, agreement, and complete sentence boundaries; shorter, well-controlled sentences would help make the comparisons easier to understand.
