Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagrams shows the difference and the new development in sutructure of town square and surrounding area in 2020 as compared to 2014.
Overall, it can be seen that library and museum dimenished in 2020 which were present in sutructure in 2014. In addition, children's playground and shops took place in 2020 which were not available in 2014.
If we look into detail, town hall, fountain, bars and restaurant were in same place as they were in 2014. Whereas, fish market was replaced with supermarket and museum was replaced with local art gallery. Bandstand were removed from the sutructure and plant beds were add on that place. Moreover, three new rooms were made, one used as a playground while other two used as a covered seating. By 2014, the huge sapce was used for administrative buildings but in 2020 it was converted into many small blocks which were use as shops.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the museum becoming a local artists’ gallery, and administrative buildings being replaced by shops. You also note that the town hall and central fountain remain. This gives a relevant overview of the redevelopment. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the plant beds were not added where the bandstand stood; they are in the northern part of the square, while the playground occupies the bandstand’s former area. The library’s fate is not explained, and saying the bars and restaurant stayed in the same place overlooks their expansion into multiple units around the southern and south-western perimeter. More precise coverage of these changes would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing specific changes. This helps the reader follow the comparison, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In addition,” and “Moreover” signal how the information relates. However, the final paragraph moves between unchanged features, replacements, and new facilities without a consistent spatial order, so the reader has to reconstruct the layout. Some connections are also awkward, particularly “Whereas” after a full stop and “By 2014” when describing the planned 2020 layout. Organise the details by area—for example, northern, central, then southern/eastern—and use transitions that clearly distinguish the two years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “administrative buildings,” “covered seating,” and “playground,” and the main changes are generally understandable. There is some variety in how you describe development, but several word choices and spelling errors reduce precision: “dimenished” is not the intended word, “sutructure” is misspelled, and “rooms” is an imprecise label for the seating areas. “Took place” is also unnatural for facilities appearing in a plan. Aim for accurate, conventional map-reporting language and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “was converted into,” “was redeveloped as,” and “units” would help describe the changes without making the account sound informal or vague.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including a comparison with “as compared to 2014” and a contrast introduced by “Whereas.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The diagrams shows” has subject–verb disagreement, “Bandstand were removed” has incorrect agreement, and “plant beds were add” uses the wrong verb form. The sentence beginning “Whereas” is also incomplete as written, and “which were use as shops” needs a correctly formed passive verb. Practise agreement, past-tense forms, and complete sentence construction, while retaining the range of sentence patterns you are attempting.
