Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given diagram illustrates the plan chart of town square that made during 2014 and other one shows the total development of the areas should be completed by year 2020.
overall,it is seen that in year 2014 there are 7 stalls of different categories and in the middle there is a fountain in the hall of time square. In the plan of 2020 there are some renovations that has been made and also more detailed in contradiction of plan of early years.
Well, first of all there is fountain in between, besides fountain it is bandstand that has been seen in the chart of 2014. Besides that on the south on the left side it is fish market and other is town hall basically for the functions or meeting.Right besides sea food market it is history musem which is on east side and library for reading books. On the north they have arranged fish restaurant and bar which is corner of eatery/.
Talking about the plan of 2020 ,the development that needs to be done it is seen to be allot of new arrangments.Firstly in the middle there are sitting arrangments for the new guest in addition there is play area for kids. However some changes that i noticed on the south side which fish market has been replaced by supermarket and town hall is as it. Moreover muesum is replaced by local artists gallery and on the north side the eatery part has been removed. For some decoration they have planned for putting indoor plants, fountain has remained in same place befor.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant features, including the central fountain, the bandstand in 2014, the town hall remaining, and the museum becoming a local artists’ gallery. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: the overview that there are “7 stalls” is inaccurate and does not capture the main transformation from commercial/administrative buildings to new shops, eateries and recreational facilities. Some locations are also misreported: the fish market is on the north-western side, not “on the south on the left side,” and the history museum is west of the square, not east. The claim that the eatery was on the north is also incorrect; these buildings were along the southern edge. Select the major changes accurately and compare the two plans more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of 2014 and 2020. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Talking about the plan of 2020” signal a shift in time. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the 2014 description jumps between sides of the square, and the 2020 paragraph mixes locations and changes without a clear route or grouping. Linking expressions such as “Besides that,” “Moreover,” and “However” are repeated or do not always show the relationship between ideas accurately. Organise details by area or by what remains, is replaced, and is added, and use clearer references to connect each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fountain,” “bandstand,” “supermarket,” “local artists gallery,” and “play area,” so the reader can identify several features. However, the range is limited and some choices are imprecise or informal for a map description. Phrases such as “plan chart,” “hall of time square,” “new guest,” and “eatery part” are unclear or unnatural, while “arrangments” and “muesum” show spelling problems. Repetition of “development,” “plan,” and “side” also limits precision. Use standard map vocabulary and name the features directly—for example, “square,” “covered seating,” “playground,” and “southern perimeter”—and check spelling of key labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response generally communicates that the square is being redeveloped. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors make some relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “the plan chart of town square that made during 2014,” “there are some renovations that has been made,” and “town hall is as it,” which show problems with articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Commas are often missing after introductory phrases, and some sentences run together, as in “Firstly in the middle there are sitting arrangments … However some changes.” Practise accurate present and future forms for describing plans, and build comparisons with complete, controlled sentences.
