Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad transformation from a town square with a fish market and administrative buildings to a more commercial and recreational area, and correctly note that the town hall and central fountain remain. However, several important details are inaccurate or unclear: the history museum is replaced by the local artists’ gallery, not the other way around, and the playground is east of the fountain, not on its left. The library is on the western side, rather than the right, and the new plant beds are in the northern part of the square, not in front of the fountain. The overview that the area became “more commercials and planned” is also vague. Select the main changes accurately and summarise them more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: it introduces the maps, describes 2014, moves to the later plan, and ends with an overall statement. Time markers such as “In 2014” and “6 years later” help the reader follow the comparison. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “Where on the right side administrative building was located,” which interrupts the description and repeats the location. The sequence also shifts between sides of the square without a consistent route, making some details harder to picture. Organise each period by location—for example, north, west, centre, then south—and use clear links such as “by contrast” or “meanwhile” to show changes without overusing them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “located,” “remains,” and “along the south side,” which helps communicate the main changes. The range is nevertheless limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “history meseum captured the place of local artists gallery” reverses the relationship and uses an unsuitable verb, while “more commercials” is not a natural description of land use. There are also spelling errors such as “predestrian,” “restaurents,” and “Bras,” which make the writing less precise. Build a small set of accurate terms for map changes, such as “was converted into,” “was redeveloped as,” and “commercial premises,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and time clauses such as “Over these years.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to understand. For example, “Fish market and town hall was located” has subject–verb disagreement, while “town hall remains” shifts tense within a past-to-future comparison. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: the opening has missing spaces after commas and full stops, and “Fish restaurant and Bar was situated …, whereas…” combines clauses awkwardly. Practise accurate past and future forms for map descriptions, agreement with plural subjects, and clear sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
