Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the history museum becoming an art gallery, and the administrative buildings being replaced by shops. You also note that the town hall and fountain remain. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the main pattern of redevelopment, and some details are inaccurate or unclear: the 2014 map shows a fish market and a fish restaurant, not “2 small markets,” while the new seating is covered seating rather than simply sitting areas. The northern plant beds and the playground’s position are mentioned only briefly, and the library’s removal is omitted. A more complete summary, organised around what stayed and what changed, would make the key features clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response follows a broadly chronological comparison, moving from the 2014 layout to the planned development, and linking phrases such as “On the other side” and “At the place of” help connect some changes. However, the information is presented in only two paragraphs, with the second becoming a long sequence of ideas joined by “and” or full stops. This makes the progression difficult to follow, and some references, such as “the other side of town hall,” are not precise enough to locate the feature. Group the changes by area or by retained and replaced features, and use clearer linking and reference phrases to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a map, including “turned into,” “at the same place,” and “near the fountain,” so the main changes can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repeated, such as “place” and “added.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “devolpment,” “musume,” “admistrative,” and “restraunts,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the description. Use more specific map vocabulary, such as “replaced,” “located,” and “along the southern edge,” and check spelling carefully. This would make the account more precise and easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine ideas in longer sentences, for example, “The town hall is at the same place as it was before,” but control is inconsistent and the range of sentence structures is limited. Errors occur in agreement and articles: “the town square consist” should be “the town square consists,” and “a plant beds” needs a plural construction. The opening description also has faulty article use in “an library” and “an musume.” Punctuation is sometimes missing, particularly where one sentence runs into the next after “old one.” These errors can make the relationships between details harder to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled clauses and check articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries.
