Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the addition of a playground and plant beds, and the removal of the administrative buildings. The overview also recognises that the square is being redeveloped. However, coverage is partial and some details are unclear or inaccurate: the plant beds are described as being “near the fountain,” although they are in the northern part of the square, and the response does not mention that the central fountain remains or that the town hall is unchanged. The claim that bars and restaurants opened in “doubled size” is not supported by the plan, which shows multiple units along the southern and south-western perimeter. Select the main changes more precisely and compare the two plans clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable introduction, overview and body, and it generally moves from the 2014 layout to the 2020 changes. This gives the reader some overall organisation. However, progression within the body is uneven: the first paragraph groups locations without a clear route around the square, while the final paragraph jumps between shops, the playground, seating, southern buildings and the gallery. Linking words such as “However,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always clarify the relationship between details. Paragraphing and a consistent spatial sequence—such as north, west, centre, east and south—would make the comparisons easier to follow. Check references too: “near the shops” is unclear because the playground is east of the fountain.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “located,” “center” and “removed,” and you attempt to describe changes with phrases such as “newly opened.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spelling errors make the account less precise, for example “bluprints,” “near by,” “fish markt” and “doubled size.” “Opened” is also not the best verb for features such as plant beds or covered seating; “added” or “introduced” would be more suitable. Repetition of “located” and “opened” further limits flexibility. Build a small set of accurate terms for map changes and positions, and proofread spelling so that the reader can focus on the information.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple structures, and the basic meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical errors occur frequently and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “fish market and town hall was situated” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “in the West side history museum and library was located” has problems with articles, agreement and sentence structure. Tense and passive forms are also inconsistent in “bars and restaurant opend in doubled size.” The response attempts a contrast with “However” and uses time phrases, but there is little variety in sentence patterns and complex constructions are not controlled reliably. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and passive forms, then combine related locations into clear sentences.
