Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall changes, especially the conversion of the administrative buildings into shops and the addition of covered seating and a playground. You also correctly note that the town hall and fountain remain, and that the fish market becomes a supermarket and the history museum becomes a gallery. This gives the response a relevant overview and covers several key features. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the plant beds are in the northern part of the square, not simply where the bandstand was, and the library is not stated to have disappeared; it is omitted from the plan’s labels. The southern buildings become bars and restaurants, while the western library area is not clearly described. More precise coverage of these changes would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, sensible structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing changes. The sequence from the northern buildings to the southern area is generally understandable, and linking expressions such as “however,” “instead,” and “whereas” help connect comparisons. However, progression is not consistently clear. The final paragraph repeats the overview rather than adding a distinct comparison, and “Therefore” does not introduce a conclusion that follows naturally from the preceding details. Some references, such as “there” and “that area,” are vague, making it harder to identify exact locations. Grouping changes by location and using clearer references would improve the flow and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “remain,” “replaced,” “covered seating area,” and “playground,” so the reader can understand the broad changes. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “converted” and “taken over.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, including “new changes made,” “added plants beds,” and “town square structure.” Spelling errors such as “sqaure” and “adminstrative,” along with inconsistent forms such as “artist’s gallery,” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise terms for locations and changes, and check spelling and collocations. This would make the description more natural and exact without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences that combine several changes, and the main message is usually recoverable. However, control is uneven, with errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries. For example, “The given pictures illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “few covered seating area” needs a plural noun and an article or quantifier adjustment. In “the fish market is no longer there which is replaced,” the relative clause is awkwardly formed; “has been replaced by” would be more accurate. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, then check agreement and punctuation before submitting.
