Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several major changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the town hall remaining, the museum becoming an artists’ gallery, and new covered seating and a playground. However, some locations are reported inaccurately: the museum and library were on the western side, not the eastern side, and the response does not clearly describe the two plant beds or the changes to the southern and south-western buildings, which become bars and restaurants. The overview repeats selected changes rather than summarising the main pattern across the square. To strengthen the report, give a clearer overview and compare the main areas systematically, including what was retained, replaced, and added.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an identifiable opening, a description of the original layout, and a summary of the planned changes, so the reader can follow its general purpose. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview appears at the end and repeats details already given, while the main paragraph moves between locations and changes without a clear organising principle. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “meanwhile,” and “However” are used, but some do not express the relationship between the ideas clearly. The fragment “An Addition of the children's playground” also interrupts the flow. Organise the report by area or by retained and changed features, and use linking phrases only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a map, including “converted,” “remained,” “transformed,” and “covered seating.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation problems make the description less precise. For example, “ordinary design” is vague, “there was a large administrative building” does not accurately describe the L-shaped buildings, and “seating facility was add” is not a natural phrase. Spelling errors such as “restuarant,” “adminstrative,” “surronding,” and “gallary” are noticeable. Build a more accurate set of location and change expressions, such as “on the western side,” “was replaced by,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences and comparisons, for example, “the fish market changed into a supermarket, whereas the town hall remained the same.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “what are plans” instead of “what the plans are,” “there was history museum,” and “fish restaurant and bar had on south side.” The fragment “An Addition of the children's playground” is not a complete sentence, and “seating facility was add” has an incorrect verb form. Articles, verb forms, and sentence construction need more consistent control. Practise writing complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use past forms for 2014 and future or planned forms for the proposed changes.
