Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the history museum site becoming a local artists’ gallery, the addition of shops, and the removal of the bandstand. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the main transformation, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the southern area was not empty in 2014: it contained a fish restaurant and a bar. The town hall remains in place, rather than “the town” remaining the same, and the central changes are not described precisely: the fountain stays, while covered seating and a playground are added. To improve, summarise the overall shift from existing civic/commercial buildings to new shops, food venues and recreational facilities, then report the locations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response follows a broadly chronological pattern, moving from the 2014 layout to planned changes by 2020, and uses some linking expressions such as “in addition” and “however.” This gives the reader a basic sense of comparison. However, the ideas are presented as one continuous sequence rather than in clearly organised paragraphs, and several transitions do not show the relationship between details clearly. For instance, “After the entrance there will be a numerous new things for refreshments” is vague and does not connect specific locations to the changes. Group the information into an introduction and overview, followed by paragraphs on the northern/western area and the centre/southern/eastern area. Use clear references and comparisons to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “converted,” “covered seating,” “plant beds,” and “administrative buildings,” which helps communicate the planned changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or phrases are imprecise, making some details difficult to understand. “A numerous new things for refreshments” does not clearly identify the bars and restaurants, while “space for a people to open shops” is an awkward way to describe the planned shops. Spelling errors such as “sqaure,” “sorrounding,” and “resturants” are also noticeable. Aim for precise location and change vocabulary, and check spelling carefully; for example, use “the southern perimeter will contain bars and restaurants” rather than a vague description of refreshments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to compare the two plans using past and future forms, as in “there was a history museum” and “will be replaced by a supermarket.” However, control of sentence structure and tense is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. The opening combines several clauses without effective sentence boundaries, while forms such as “there will be not any space” and “the town will remain as same” show problems with word order and article use. There are also missing or misplaced commas and full stops, which make the long sequence difficult to follow. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check that past forms describe 2014 while future forms describe the proposed plan.
