Student answer (Band 6.0)
The first diagram presents the town square and nearby area in 2014 whereas the second diagram illustrates the developemental plan of the area that needs completion by 2020.
Overall, there is redevelopment of town square by the construction of children's playground, covered seating and plants beds. Whereas, there are replacement of several buildings like administrative buildings, fish market and history museum. In addition, library and bars and restaurants and bandstand will be removed.

However, library right next to history museum and fish restaurant and bars at the south side of town square will be removed in 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main direction of change and include several important features: the fish market becomes a supermarket, the history museum becomes a gallery, and new seating and a playground are added around the retained central fountain. The overview also notes that the administrative buildings are replaced. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. The library is not shown as removed; it is absent from the 2020 plan, but this should be reported carefully rather than grouped with the fish restaurant and bars as if all are simply removed. The southern buildings become bars and restaurants, not disappear. The bandstand is replaced by the playground, while covered seating is placed on both sides of the fountain. More precise comparisons and a clearer account of what remains would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a basic progression from the general picture to specific features. However, the organisation within the body is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the sentence beginning “In 2014” combines the fountain, bandstand, playground, seating and plant beds without clearly distinguishing their locations or the before-and-after changes. “However” also introduces the final point without a clear contrast, and the overview’s “Whereas” creates a fragment rather than a complete linked sentence. Grouping changes by location or by what is retained versus replaced, and using clearer links between comparisons, would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “redevelopment,” “replaced,” “covered seating,” and “children’s playground,” which helps convey the plan. Some less common choices are attempted, but several are inaccurate or awkward: “developmental plan” is not the natural phrase here, “plants beds” is incorrectly formed, and “local artists and gallery” does not clearly name the local artists’ gallery. “At the far right” is also less precise than a directional description such as “to the east of the fountain.” Spelling errors such as “developemental,” “intial,” and “fishmarket” reduce accuracy. More precise map vocabulary and careful checking of word forms and spelling would strengthen the description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a relative clause in “library right next to history museum.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “there is redevelopment … by the construction” has an awkward structure, while “there are replacement” shows a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles are missing in phrases such as “there was fountain” and “at very center,” and the sentence beginning “Whereas” is incomplete. Tense and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly in the long sentence about the bandstand and new facilities. Aim for complete sentences, consistent past-to-future comparisons, and accurate articles and agreement.
