Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad purpose of the plans and report several major changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, the town hall remaining, the gallery replacing the museum, and shops replacing the administrative buildings. However, the overview is vague and partly inaccurate: the square is not simply gaining “a significant amount” of buildings, and the fountain remains while new recreational features are added. Some locations are misreported: the plant beds are in the northern part, not where the bandstand was, and the covered seating is on either side of the fountain rather than “to the upper side” of the restaurants. The library’s fate is also not explained. A clearer overview and more precise, accurate comparisons would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the changes, and phrases such as “In 2014” and “Moreover” help signal progression. However, the organisation does not consistently guide the reader through the map. The overview is followed by details that mix locations and changes, and the final sentence repeats the general idea that many changes occurred rather than adding useful information. Some references are unclear, particularly “On the right,” which does not clearly identify the western buildings, and “the upper side of the bars and restaurants.” Grouping changes by area—for example, northern buildings, central square, then southern and eastern edges—would create a clearer progression and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “demolished,” “constructed,” and “covered seating,” so the reader can understand the general nature of the redevelopment. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “nourishment of a town square,” “well established buildings,” and “completely modernized” for the changes to the restaurants and bars. Spelling errors, including “sorrounding,” “reaminds,” and “resturents,” are noticeable and reduce precision. Use standard planning terms such as “redevelopment,” “retained,” and “converted into,” and check spelling carefully. More precise location vocabulary would also help distinguish the northern, western, central, and southern areas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features difficult to follow. For example, “Fish markets has been replaced” has subject–verb disagreement, while “history museum and library has been completely demolished and add local artists gallery” contains problems with agreement, verb form, and sentence construction. There are also errors in articles and plurals, as in “a playground for childrens are constructed,” and inconsistent capitalization after sentence breaks. Most sentences follow a similar basic pattern, with limited control of more varied structures. Practise accurate past and future forms for map comparisons, and check agreement and articles in each sentence.
