Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from the fish market to a supermarket and correctly note that the town hall and central fountain remain, while new facilities are introduced. However, the overview is incomplete and includes an inaccurate claim: the bar was not removed; the southern and south-western buildings become bars and restaurants. Several important changes are omitted or unclear, including the replacement of the administrative buildings by shops, the new covered seating and playground, and the plant beds. The description of the 2014 layout also misplaces the bandstand, which was north-east of the fountain, not below the town hall. To strengthen the response, give a more accurate overview of the main transformations and compare the two plans using specific locations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two plans. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and several linking expressions are used mechanically or do not show a clear relationship. For example, “On the other hand” does not establish a contrast between the museum and library, while “Similarly” introduces the administrative buildings without a meaningful comparison. The repeated use of “Furthermore” and “Likewise” also makes the connections feel formulaic. Organise details by location or by what changed, and use clearer references such as “In the 2020 plan” and “By contrast” only where a genuine comparison is being made.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “converted into,” “covered seating,” “playground,” and “on the same place.” These choices show an attempt to describe changes and locations. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unclear, such as “the site of town square,” “the development … to be end,” and “at the round of fountain.” Spelling errors such as “suqare” and “beeds” also reduce precision. Aim to use standard map-description phrases consistently, including “the town square,” “was replaced by,” “around the fountain,” and “in the north-eastern corner.” More precise vocabulary would help distinguish facilities that were retained, replaced, or newly added.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “while” and “after,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in examples such as “the development … to be end,” “the fish market are converted,” and “some shops was added.” Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “there have history museum and library,” while “the town hall was on the same place” shows an inaccurate prepositional pattern. These errors sometimes make relationships between events and locations harder to understand. Practise forming accurate past-tense passive sentences for changes, such as “The fish market was replaced by a supermarket,” and check subject–verb agreement and articles in each sentence.
