Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main change from a fish market to a supermarket and correctly note that the town hall and central fountain remain. You also mention several planned additions, including plant beds, a playground and covered seating. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the local artists’ gallery replaces the history museum, rather than the museum being replaced by a gallery in the north-west as your wording suggests; the library’s removal is not stated clearly in the plan; and the eastern shops do not form a row extending to the north-west. The overview that the square will be “more attractive and modern” is subjective and does not summarise the main physical changes. Cover the conversion of the eastern buildings and southern perimeter more accurately to make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing locations and changes. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Moreover” help signal progression. However, the organisation within the detail paragraphs is not consistently clear. The northern and central features are mixed together, while the final paragraph combines seating, shops, demolished buildings and the library without a strong spatial sequence. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “a new local artist gallery will be replaced with a history museum,” which reverses or obscures the change. Grouping features by area and using precise references such as “to the east of the fountain” would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of map-related vocabulary, including “replaced,” “remain untouched,” “plant beds,” “covered seating” and “demolished.” These choices show an attempt to describe both existing and planned features. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “at a fleeting glance” is not suitable for introducing a map description, “add up” does not mean installed, and “in a rows” is an incorrect collocation. There are also word-form and spelling problems, such as “artist gallery” and “their is.” Aim for straightforward, accurate phrases rather than decorative wording, and use consistent labels such as “local artists’ gallery” and “bars and restaurants” from the plan.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses with “while” and “which,” but control is uneven. Errors occur in basic sentence forms and agreement: “The given diagram illustrate” needs a plural verb, and “Several old building will be replaced” needs a plural noun. Tense and auxiliary forms are also problematic in “town square will be more more attractive” and “covered seating will be add up.” Articles and prepositions are sometimes missing or awkward, as in “in left” and “right side to fountain.” These errors can make relationships between features unclear. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions of the 2014 map and future forms for the proposed plan, while checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
