Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the administrative buildings being replaced by shops, and the fountain and town hall remaining. However, the overview is unclear and some details are inaccurate: the plant beds are not a replacement for the bandstand, and the playground is east of the fountain rather than “in the center.” You also say the library, fish restaurant and bar are no longer there, but the plan shows the southern buildings becoming bars and restaurants, while the library’s future use is not specified. The response is 131 words, below the required 150, and this limits the detail and coverage you can provide. Describe the main changes more precisely and include the western and southern areas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph listing further changes. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several changes are crowded into long sentences, and links such as “Furthermore” and “the third thing” do not clearly show how the features relate spatially or by type. The overview also combines unrelated details, making the main pattern hard to identify. Use separate paragraphs for the overall summary and the specific changes, then group details by location—for example, the northern buildings, the square’s centre, and the southern and eastern edges. Clearer sentence boundaries and references would make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “replaced,” “remain same,” “shops,” “supermarket,” and “covered seating.” These choices show an attempt to report changes rather than simply list labels. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, such as “major changes has done,” “plants beds is shifted,” and “there will be placed.” Spelling errors such as “ilustrates” and “alos,” along with forms such as “artist's gallery,” reduce precision. Choose direct map vocabulary and accurate collocations, such as “is converted into,” “is located to the east of,” and “the southern buildings are divided into units.” This would make the descriptions clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to use both simple statements and longer sentences with connectors, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “the major changes has done” and “town hall remain same,” while “there will be placed children's playground” has an incorrect passive construction. Articles and sentence structure are also problematic, as in “the two town square” and “in he center.” Several ideas are joined into extended sentences without clear punctuation, which makes relationships between features difficult to understand. Aim for shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “The town hall remains in the north-east.” Then practise accurate past-to-future comparisons using forms like “was replaced by” and “will be converted into.”
