Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given map chart illustrates how many alternations were occured in a town square and the outside of it between 2014 and 2020.

Overall, it is crystal clear that number of facilities were introduced after the refurbishment of town square such as childre's playground, covered seating, plant beds and so on whereas town hall and fountain was untouched.

At fleeting glance, the fishmarket was coverted into supermarket in 2020 which was in the northwest corner while beside this the town hall had remained same. Following this, the adminstrative building was located in the right side of town in 2014 , it had been divided into several shops after development.

Moving ahead, to the south, there was a library, bars and fish restaurants which had been recontstructed into bars and restaurants in 2020 but it is intresting to notice that in the heart of town was fountain where had not any changes. Move to west side, the history museum was shifted into local art gallery . in 2014, bandstand was infornt of town hall which was replaced by to plant beds in 2020, two more amenities were introduced surrounding the fountain after progress like chaildren's playground and covered seating.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You give a clear overview of the main transformation: new facilities were added, while the town hall and central fountain remained. You also accurately identify the supermarket replacing the fish market, the shops replacing the administrative buildings, and the gallery replacing the history museum. These relevant comparisons show that you address the task and select important changes. However, some details are misreported or unclear: the library is not described as part of the southern redevelopment, and the two plant beds were not where the bandstand stood; the bandstand’s position became a playground. The final sentence also groups the playground and covered seating together without clearly locating them. More precise reporting of the western and southern changes would make the account more fully supported and reliable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes by area. This gives the reader a coherent general route through the map, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Moving ahead” signal progression. However, some links are mechanical or do not accurately express the relationship between features. For example, “Following this” and “At fleeting glance” do little to clarify the sequence, while “but” in the final paragraph joins ideas that are not contrasting. The west, south and central details are also compressed into long sentences, making the locations harder to follow. Use clearer spatial grouping and refer explicitly to the north, west, centre and south to improve cohesion and precision.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to map changes, including “refurbishment,” “introduced,” “divided,” and “reconstructed,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the description less clear. “Alternations” is not the right term for changes, “the outside of it” is vague, and “shifted into” does not naturally describe a building’s new use. There are also misspellings such as “coverted,” “adminstrative,” and “intresting.” Aim for precise map language and check spelling carefully; using straightforward terms such as “replaced by,” “converted into,” and “located” would be more effective than awkward or over-ambitious phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “whereas” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in “how many alternations were occured” and “town hall and fountain was untouched.” Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “in the heart of town was fountain where had not any changes.” Several sentences run together or use punctuation inconsistently, particularly the final paragraph, where a new sentence begins with a lowercase “in.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to interpret. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and build complex sentences around a clear subject and verb; for example, “The fountain remained in the centre, while the bandstand was replaced by a playground.”
