Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram demonstrates the transformation of town square and nearby area which was initiated in year 2014 and established in year 2020.

We observed a vast catalog of replacements initiated by authorities, instead of bandstand the plant beds and covering seating area was constructed for residents to sit at the center of the town. Additionally, children's playground was also set up allow residents to keep their pupils busy. The same building of history museum was transformed into local artists' gallery. At last, increasing blocks at the place of library allowed them to construct more bars and restaurants.

As we move forward, we can see a significant transformation of administrative buildings converted into small shops. After that by gradually moving to the north, the town hall building undergone consistent changes without any variation. At last, fish market was completely replaced by supermarket which allowed residents to buy items easily.

Overall, higher authorities had done an immensely conversion by dividing large spaces into chunks of local shops. Moreover, adding seating arrangment and children's playarea helps residents to engage their leisure time more enjoyable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify several major changes accurately: the fish market becomes a supermarket, the history museum becomes a local artists’ gallery, the administrative buildings are replaced by shops, and the town hall and central fountain remain. Your overview also recognises the broader conversion of the square into leisure and commercial spaces. This covers the task well, though some details are incomplete or unclear: the plant beds are north of the square, while the covered seating is on both sides of the fountain, not simply “at the center”; the library’s replacement is not described accurately as more bars and restaurants, since the western building becomes the gallery. To strengthen the response further, report the main spatial changes more precisely and avoid adding unsupported purposes such as making shopping easier or keeping pupils busy.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an opening statement to changes and then an overall summary. Phrases such as “Additionally” and “As we move forward” signal connections, and the reader can follow the broad contrast between the two plans. However, the progression is not consistently logical: “As we move forward” introduces a return to the north after the previous paragraph, and “At last” is used for separate features without a clear spatial or thematic sequence. The overview also comes at the end and partly repeats earlier points. Grouping changes by location or by what was replaced, then presenting a concise overview before the details, would make the organisation clearer and reduce mechanical linking.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “transformation,” “converted,” “dividing,” and “engage,” and the main changes are generally understandable. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a plan: “vast catalog of replacements,” “initiated” and “established” do not fit the map’s time comparison, while “increasing blocks” does not clearly describe the new units. There are also spelling and form issues, including “arrangment” and “playarea.” Prefer precise, neutral map language such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” “located,” and “remained unchanged.” This would improve clarity and collocation while retaining the useful range you are already attempting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, more complex sentences, for example the sentence beginning “Additionally” and the clause “which allowed residents to buy items easily.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in sentence construction and verb forms make parts less clear. Examples include “transformation of town square and nearby area,” which needs an article, “was set up allow,” which needs a grammatical link such as “was set up to allow,” and “the town hall building undergone,” which requires a finite verb form such as “underwent.” In “the plant beds and covering seating area was constructed,” the subject and verb do not agree. Check articles, agreement, and verb forms, and use a wider range of accurate sentence patterns.
