Student answer (Band 5.0)

The diagram showed for the year 2014 shows major areas like fish market and town hall also a library and meuseum however the development plans for 2020 show a lot of progress and modernization of the same place.

A lot of important components are proposed to be completed by 2020 which includes commercialisation of the place as main feature. The fish market is supposed to be converted into a super market which will contain more things and would become benificial in number of ways for a majority of people.

There is significant growth in restaurans and bars as well moreover a very important factor has been introduced i this plan as plant beds are being introduced and there is a place for sitting and playground for children.

As a whole there is a lot of development and modernizatioin involved if we compare both times.

the place in 2020 is being used more effectively and it contains more options as in 2014.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from a fish market to a supermarket and mention new plant beds, seating, a playground, and more food businesses. These are relevant features, and your final comparison recognises that the square is intended to serve more purposes. However, the account is only partial: it omits several major changes, including the artists’ gallery, shops replacing the administrative buildings, and the retention of the town hall and central fountain. The claim that the supermarket “will contain more things” is speculative rather than information shown on the plan. Your overview also relies on general terms such as “progress and modernization” instead of clearly summarising the main spatial changes. Report the key replacements and unchanged features more precisely, without adding assumptions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with a comparison of the two years, then describes proposed changes, and ends with a general summary. Paragraph breaks help separate these parts. However, progression is not consistently clear, and the description does not follow a systematic route around the square or group changes by location. Linking phrases such as “moreover” and “As a whole” are used, but connections between details remain loose; for example, the supermarket, restaurants, plant beds, seating, and playground are listed without a clear organising pattern. The opening sentence is also repetitive (“showed for the year 2014 shows”). A clearer overview followed by a location-based account, with precise references such as “in the north-west” and “on the eastern side,” would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing development, including “converted,” “commercialisation,” “plant beds,” and “playground.” This gives you a basic range for the topic, but word choice is often general or imprecise: “a lot of progress,” “more things,” and “more options” do not explain the map changes accurately. Some expressions are awkward in context, such as “significant growth in restaurants and bars,” when the plan shows existing perimeter buildings being divided into more units. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “meuseum,” “benificial,” “restaurans,” and “modernizatioin.” Build a more precise map vocabulary—such as “replaced by,” “retained,” “located to the east of,” and “divided into units”—and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few longer structures, including “which includes commercialisation of the place” and “if we compare both times,” but control is uneven and the range remains limited. The opening has a faulty repeated construction: “The diagram showed for the year 2014 shows.” Other problems include missing or incorrect articles and agreement in “a lot of important components … which includes,” as well as the unclear phrase “there is a place for sitting and playground for children.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and a lower-case “the” beginning the final sentence. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they make several sentences awkward. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled clauses to describe replacements and locations.
