Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main purpose of the plans and report several important changes, including the replacement of the fish market by a supermarket, the conversion of administrative buildings into shops, and the addition of a gallery and playground. The overview also recognises that facilities were removed and added. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the library and history museum were on the western side but were not next to each other, and the plant beds were in the northern part rather than “in the middle.” The account also omits notable features such as the two covered seating areas and the division of southern buildings into bars and restaurants. A more precise overview and fuller selection of key changes would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the 2014 layout, and a comparison with the 2020 plan. This gives the reader a basic progression through the information. However, the organisation within paragraphs is mostly a list of locations, and the repeated connectors “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Additionally” make the links feel mechanical. “On the other hand” does not express a clear contrast between the two plans, while “Similarly” introduces another location rather than a similarity. Grouping changes by area—for example, northern buildings, central facilities, and southern/eastern uses—and using clearer comparisons would make the progression more coherent. Some references, such as “they” in the introduction, are also not fully clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “situated,” “replaced,” “fountain,” and “administrative buildings,” and the reader can generally understand the intended changes. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or spelling problems reduce precision. “First marked” appears to mean “fish market,” and “fish marked” is repeated; “town square” and “area” are also used broadly where more specific descriptions would help. Phrases such as “provide more access” do not accurately describe the purpose or function shown, and “bars and restaurant was constructed” is an imprecise way to report the planned conversion. Use accurate facility names and varied verbs such as “remain,” “be converted into,” and “be replaced by” to describe the map.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “the area was arrange” should use a past participle, while “significant changes took in this period” has an incomplete construction. Agreement errors occur in “administrative buildings was located” and “bar and fish restaurant was located.” Articles are missing in phrases such as “library was situated” and “in east side,” and capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent. Most descriptions rely on similar simple past or passive patterns. Practise accurate past-tense and passive constructions, then combine related locations into controlled complex sentences.
