Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main purpose of the maps and provide a useful overview that the square will change substantially, noting the supermarket replacing the fish market and the new facilities. You also compare several locations across the two plans. However, some details are misreported: in 2014 the fountain is central and the bandstand is north-east of it, not the other way around; in 2020 the fountain remains central, rather than being “in North.” The administrative buildings are on the eastern side, not the western side, and the bars and restaurants are not demolished but reorganised into multiple units. The response covers the main changes, but these inaccuracies and the limited explanation of what remains unchanged prevent a more complete, precise account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “In 2014” and “In 2020” help signal the time comparison. However, the overview combines several changes without clearly distinguishing them, and the 2020 paragraph moves between the northern, central, western and southern features in a way that can be difficult to follow. Some references are also unclear, particularly “with a fountain in North and seating will be south-west and south east corner.” Grouping changes by location or by what is retained versus replaced, and using clearer linking and reference, would make the progression more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “north-western corner,” “replaced,” “covered seating,” and “children playground,” so the reader can identify many of the features being described. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, such as “resturants,” “decomlished,” “libery,” and “construsted.” Some word combinations are also imprecise: “bars and restaurants are decomlished” does not accurately describe their reorganisation, and “the town occupied the north-east side” is an unclear way to refer to the town hall. Aim for accurate, consistent terms such as “town hall,” “demolished,” and “converted into,” and check spelling carefully. More precise verbs for map changes would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “while” and future descriptions using “will be replaced.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical relationships occur throughout. For example, “They remove the fish market and replaced this with supermarket” shifts tense and has an unclear subject, while “the fish bar and resturents will be merged and situated will be” is not a complete, well-formed construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and prepositions, as in “with a fountain in North” and “along side the southern edges.” Use complete clauses, maintain consistent past and future forms, and check articles and prepositions when describing locations.
