Student answer (Band 5.0)
The infanstructural plan illustrate a town square and its surrounding area in 2014 and in 2020, demostrating the developments expected to be finished in 2020.
Starting with 2014, we notice that the city square composes of 7 main buildings categoriesed as the following:
An admninistrative buildings.
A building that hosts the town hall.
A building that contains a fish market.
A building that hosts a history museum.
A building that contains a library.
And lastly a building that contains a fish restaurant.
With a fountain in the middle of the city square and a bandstand next to it, with three entrences leading to them.
In 2020, the expected developments of the city square are as the following :
Firstly, the dismantlement of the administrative builldings and renovating them to bars, restaurents and shops.
Second, the buildings that previously hosted a fish market and a history museum in 2014, will also be renovated to host a supermarket and a local artists gallery.
Lastly, in the middle of the city square, we notice that the brandstand has been disbanded, and the construction of plant beds with a children's play ground next to it, and the addition of two covered seatings.
We also notice the opening of a new entrance through the previous adminstrative buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several key changes, including the replacement of the fish market by a supermarket, the history museum becoming an artists’ gallery, and the removal of the bandstand. However, the response only partially reports the plans and does not give a clear overview of the main transformation. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the administrative buildings are replaced by shops, while bars and restaurants occupy the southern and south-western perimeter; they are not all renovations of the administrative buildings. The plant beds are in the northern part of the square, not in the middle, and the new entrance is not clearly supported by the plan. You also omit important features such as the retained town hall and fountain, and the two covered seating areas. Select and compare the main changes more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure, moving from 2014 to the proposed 2020 layout, and signposts such as “Starting with 2014,” “Firstly,” and “Lastly” help the reader follow the sequence. However, the organisation is weakened by the list-like presentation of the 2014 buildings, including several separate fragments, and the 2020 paragraph combines changes in different locations without a clear spatial order. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated “we notice” and “Firstly/Second/Lastly.” Grouping information by area—for example, northern buildings, central square, and southern/eastern edges—would create clearer progression. A concise overview before the details would also help the reader understand the overall pattern of change.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fountain,” “bandstand,” “administrative buildings,” and “covered seatings,” and you attempt to describe redevelopment with words such as “dismantlement” and “renovated.” However, spelling errors are frequent and sometimes make the intended wording harder to recognise, as in “infanstructural,” “demostrating,” and “restaurents.” Several choices are also inaccurate or unnatural: “the city square composes of” and “the bandstand has been disbanded” do not express the intended meanings clearly. The vocabulary range is therefore limited and control is inconsistent. Use precise map language such as “is replaced by,” “is converted into,” and “is located to the east of,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer structures, including “the buildings that previously hosted a fish market and a history museum … will also be renovated,” but control is uneven. Errors in sentence construction and agreement appear in examples such as “the city square composes of 7 main buildings” and “An admninistrative buildings.” The opening also has a subject–verb agreement problem: “The … plan illustrate.” Several list items are sentence fragments, and the final sentence joins multiple changes in a way that makes the relationships difficult to follow. Tense use is generally aimed at distinguishing the existing layout from future plans, but some sentences need clearer, more consistent construction. Practise complete sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, and use punctuation to separate distinct changes.
