Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main direction of change and include several accurate comparisons: the fish market becomes a supermarket, the history museum becomes a gallery, and the fountain and town hall remain. This gives the response a relevant overview of the redevelopment. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate. The library is not converted into bars and restaurants; the southern and south-western perimeter buildings are divided into those units. Likewise, the new plant beds are in the northern part of the square, rather than simply around the fountain, and the shops replace the eastern administrative buildings. To strengthen the report, describe the main changes by location and distinguish clearly between what remains, what is replaced, and what is newly added; some features are currently less fully explained than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview and paragraphs describing changes. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison between 2014 and 2020. However, progression within the body is not consistently clear: the final paragraph moves from amenities to the museum, library and administrative buildings without a clear spatial or thematic order. Linking words such as “over the years” and “while” are repeated or used awkwardly, and “following by” does not clearly connect the listed features. Organise the details in a consistent route around the square or group them into buildings and open-space changes. Clearer referencing and more precise transitions would make the relationships between features easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “converted,” “fountain,” “plant beds,” “covered seating areas” and “administrative building,” so the reader can understand the general redevelopment. There is also an attempt to vary wording with “developed” and “untouched.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing plans: “amenities have been covered into shops” and “retail places” do not clearly express the changes, while “near by area” is not the natural form. Some labels are also used inaccurately, particularly the claim that the library became bars and restaurants. Aim for precise verbs such as “replaced,” “remained” and “was converted into,” and use the map’s labels consistently to avoid ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “While over the time central fountain and town hall has been untouched.” The main meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “museum has” should agree with the plural subject in “areas around fountain and museum,” and “Fish market and fish restaurants has” needs plural agreement. Articles are missing in phrases such as “town square” and “central fountain,” while “has been completely changes” combines incompatible verb forms. The sentence beginning “While” is also a fragment. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete comparisons, checking subject–verb agreement and article use before submitting.
