Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the central fountain remaining, the history museum becoming an artists’ gallery, the fish market being replaced by a supermarket, and the administrative buildings becoming shops. The overview also recognises that the square is being rearranged. However, coverage is partial: the two plant beds, covered seating, playground’s position, and the conversion of the southern and south-western buildings into bars and restaurants are not clearly reported. The statement that the bar and restaurant were “left untouched” is inaccurate, since these perimeter buildings are divided into multiple units in the plan. The response is also one word below the required minimum. To strengthen the report, describe the main changes more fully and check each comparison against the map.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable progression: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing specific changes. Linking expressions such as “Looking from an overall perspective,” “Furthermore,” and “Finally” help signal the sequence. However, the organisation is not always clear because several distinct changes are compressed into broad statements, and the final sentence groups the town hall with the bar and restaurant despite their different outcomes. Some transitions, including “Focusing an to remaining changes,” are awkward and make the relationship between ideas harder to follow. Group the information by location or by what remains versus what changes, and use clearer references to the square’s northern, central, and southern areas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “converted,” “replaced,” “centre,” and “divided into shops,” which helps communicate the main transformations. There is also an attempt to vary wording with phrases such as “undergone noticeable changes.” However, several spelling errors—“perpective,” “syuare,” “noticable,” and “supermaket”—are noticeable, and some choices are imprecise: “fishing area” does not accurately name the fish market, while “area of administrative” is incomplete. “New spots” is also informal and vague for an academic map report. Use precise labels from the map and check spelling; terms such as “facilities,” “premises,” and “perimeter buildings” can help describe changes accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and more complex forms, including “the history museum was converted into…” and “the area … remained constant,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, some sentence patterns are awkward or incomplete. For example, “Focusing an to remaining changes” has an incorrect grammatical construction, and “The area of administrative was divided into shops” lacks a clear noun phrase. There are also agreement and article problems in “Many rearrangement took place” and “the area of plant beds and children playground were added.” Aim for accurate plural forms and complete noun phrases, such as “Several rearrangements took place” and “Plant beds and a children’s playground were added.” More controlled complex sentences would improve clarity.
