Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the two dates and mentions several relevant features, including the town hall, fountain, supermarket, gallery, playground and covered seating. However, it reports the layout inaccurately: the library and history museum are on the western side, not the east, and the artists’ gallery is also in the west, not the east. It says there are many shops in the west, whereas the shops replace the administrative buildings on the eastern side. The claim that the bar was removed because it was unhealthy is invented; the southern buildings become bars and restaurants. There is no clear overview of the main changes, and the response is one word below the required minimum. Focus on accurate comparisons and avoid unsupported explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure: it describes 2014 first and then moves to 2020, with “On the other hand” signalling the change of period. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, the first paragraph is a list of separate locations rather than a connected summary, and the second paragraph does not clearly group the changes by area or type. The repeated opening “there is” and abrupt statements such as “The Newly places added…” weaken progression. Use a brief overview after the introduction, then organise details into clear groups—for example, buildings around the perimeter and features within the square—and use linking phrases to show what remains, is replaced or is added.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “town square,” “administrative buildings,” “fountain,” “children garden” and “covered seating,” so the basic subject is usually recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “aims for development,” “near to each other,” and “The place that removed.” Spelling errors, including “sorrounding” and “resturant,” also reduce control. The phrase “beautiful fountain” is subjective and does not help describe the map. Build a more precise set of terms for map changes, such as “remains,” “is replaced by,” “is converted into” and “is located to the west of,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple present-tense patterns, and the reader can understand several basic statements, such as “In the mid there is a beautiful fountain.” However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction, articles, prepositions and punctuation. For example, “In east side there is one library and history museum.at south…” lacks appropriate articles and sentence boundaries; “The place that removed” is missing a passive verb form; and “The Newly places added is…” has problems with number agreement and structure. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent. Practise accurate passive forms for planned changes (“the fish market is replaced”) and combine simple clauses using correct articles and punctuation.
