Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the main stages of change and provide an overview, noting that the square was redeveloped and that the fountain remained while new facilities were introduced. Several key comparisons are accurate, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the town hall remaining, and the administrative buildings being replaced by shops. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the bandstand was replaced by a playground, not plant beds; the plant beds were added in the northern part of the square. The library is not shown as removed in the plan, and the gallery occupies the former museum. The overview would be stronger if it highlighted the broader conversion of perimeter buildings into commercial units and the addition of seating and play space.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of 2014 and 2020. This makes the chronological comparison easy to follow, and phrases such as “In 2014” and “In 2020” guide the reader. However, some sentences contain many details joined together, particularly the 2014 description, so relationships between locations become difficult to track. The overview also combines several changes in one sentence without clearly grouping them. Use shorter sentences and organise details by area—for example, northern buildings, central square, and southern/eastern perimeter. More precise referencing would also help readers understand which features remain and which are replaced.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a map, including “replaced,” “remains,” “in the centre,” and “on the east,” so the main changes are generally understandable. There is some variety in the names of facilities, but several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “foundation” is used for the fountain, “reconstructed into” is unnatural for a change of use, and “adminstrative” and “playgrond” are misspelled. Some phrases, such as “connected to bar and town hall,” are also imprecise for describing locations. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and collocations, such as “situated,” “converted into,” and “along the southern edge.” Proofreading spelling would make your descriptions more reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation occur across the response. For example, “The maps illustrates” should be “The maps illustrate,” while “the bandstand was replace” needs “was replaced.” Article use is also inconsistent in phrases such as “an town hall” and “an supermarket.” Several long sentences are joined with commas, creating run-ons and making the relationships between ideas less clear. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and past-tense passive forms, and divide lists of changes into shorter sentences with full stops.
