Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, the town hall remaining, the gallery taking the museum’s former site, and shops replacing the administrative buildings. These details show a relevant understanding of the plans. However, the response does not give a clear, well-developed overview of the main transformation: the square gains new leisure facilities and its surrounding buildings are repurposed. Some locations are inaccurate or unclear: the playground is described as near the administrative complex, although it is east of the fountain, and the library is said to be replaced by bars and restaurants, whereas the gallery occupies the former museum site and the southern buildings become bars and restaurants. The final claim about “more space” is not clearly supported. Select and compare the main changes more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response includes a sequence of relevant changes, and some links between old and new uses are understandable, such as the fish market becoming a supermarket. However, nearly all the information is presented as one continuous paragraph, with no clear overview separated from the details. The repeated use of “will” and “also” makes the progression feel like a list rather than a structured comparison. The opening sentence is confusing, and transitions such as “However” do not always express a clear contrast. Group the information by area or type of change—for example, northern buildings, central facilities, and southern/eastern buildings—and use clear references to the 2014 and planned layouts. This would make the relationships between features easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “replaced,” “administrative buildings,” “gallery,” and “covered seating facility,” which helps communicate the planned changes. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “beautiful two plan beds” does not clearly describe the two plant beds, and “busstand” misnames the bandstand. Spelling errors such as “beutiful,” “rplaced,” and “differance” reduce accuracy. Phrases such as “more facilities and more space for citizens” are broad and do not precisely describe the map. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “two plant beds will be added” and “the bandstand will be replaced by a playground.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer relative clauses, as in “The history museum and library which located opposite side…” This shows some effort to vary sentence structure, but several grammatical errors make the relationships difficult to read. For example, “will be arranged” needs a clear subject and article, while “which located” requires a verb form such as “which was located.” Tense and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent: “as 2024” conflicts with the task’s 2014 date, and “supermarket. However” needs spacing and clearer punctuation. Articles and prepositions are often missing, as in “at the location where history museum located.” Use past tense for the existing map and future forms for planned changes, checking each sentence for a complete verb pattern.
