Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several key locations and changes, including the central fountain remaining, the fish market becoming a supermarket, and the bandstand area becoming a playground. However, the response mainly lists positions rather than summarising the main changes or giving a clear overview of how the square is redeveloped. Some important details are omitted, such as the town hall remaining in place, the gallery replacing the history museum, and the eastern administrative buildings becoming shops. The southern buildings are also not described as being divided into bars and restaurants. A few locations are unclear, for example, “left uper side” for the history museum. Organise the information around the overall pattern of change, then select and compare the most significant features rather than claiming to explain “every single thing.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it describes some features in 2014, then the 2020 plan, and finally compares the supermarket and town hall with their earlier locations. This gives the reader a general sense of the two time periods. However, the ideas are not grouped consistently, and repeated phrases such as “left side,” “right side,” and “in 2020” make the account feel like a list. The opening and closing sentences add little to the description, while the paragraph breaks do not clearly separate the overview from the detailed comparisons. Use a short overview followed by organised paragraphs—for example, one for buildings around the perimeter and one for changes within the square—and use clear linking phrases to show what is retained, replaced, or added.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “fountain,” “bandstand,” “administrative buildings,” “covered seating,” and “plant beds,” so the reader can identify several features. The range is nevertheless limited, with frequent reliance on basic location phrases such as “left side,” “right side,” and “upper side.” Some spelling errors, including “mesuem” and “uper,” and imprecise expressions such as “full uper left side” reduce clarity. There is also little vocabulary for describing change, despite the task requiring comparisons between the two plans. Build a more precise set of terms for location and redevelopment, and check spelling of labels copied from the map. This would make the description clearer and less repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most of the response uses short, simple clauses, and the intended locations can often be understood. However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “The diagram below show” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “the mid of the town have fountain” lacks an appropriate verb form and article. The repeated pattern “on the … side have” also does not form a complete, accurate description. Practise complete sentences using structures such as “The fountain is located in the centre” and “The fish market is replaced by a supermarket.” Then combine related details with accurate clauses and punctuation.
