Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two years and report several relevant changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the history museum becoming an artists’ gallery, and new seating and a playground near the fountain. You also note that the town hall and fountain remain. However, the overview is unclear (“some place” and “other all change”), and important changes are omitted or inaccurately described. For example, the plant beds are not simply “near the town hall”; they are in the northern part of the square, and the eastern administrative buildings are replaced by shops. The claim that the library became smaller is not supported by the plan. To make the summary more complete, give a clear overview of the main redevelopment and describe the major changes accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader some sense of the comparison, and phrases such as “In addition” and “Moreover” help connect details. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the descriptions move between locations without a reliable spatial order. References such as “near the chage” and “that area” are unclear, while “And near the fish restaurant and bar” does not form a complete connection to the following idea. Organise the details by area—for example, the northern buildings, the centre, and the southern and eastern edges—and use clear location references to show what changed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “town square,” “fountain,” “covered seating,” and “children’s playground,” and you attempt to describe changes with “convert” and “made.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear, such as “some palce,” “plans for renovate,” “the chage,” and “many thing.” “Made” is also repeated where more precise verbs would help explain the map, such as “replaced,” “added,” or “converted.” Spelling errors, including “palce” and “palnt,” further reduce clarity. Build a small set of accurate map-description terms and check spelling and word forms; this will make the comparisons more precise and easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can understand some basic comparisons, such as “History museum convert in local artists gallery.” However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur throughout. For example, “Overall, in 2014 had some place” lacks a clear subject, while “Town hall and fountain was same” has incorrect agreement and an incomplete construction. “History museum convert” also needs a correctly formed passive verb, and “in 2020 made shops in that area” lacks a clear subject. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and the passive forms commonly used for maps, such as “was replaced by” and “was converted into.” Use full stops to separate complete ideas.
